Why Do You Need Port Forwarding?

Port forwarding ensures that devices outside your network can connect to services like game servers, web servers, or applications running on your computer. By forwarding the specified ports (26001 to 26015), your IGI2 server becomes accessible to other users over the internet.

Router Icon Step 1: Access Your Router’s Admin Panel

Follow these instructions to log into your router’s settings:

  1. Find your default gateway IP address by running the following command in Command Prompt:
    > ipconfig

Look for the line labeled Default Gateway. This is the IP address of your router (e.g., 192.168.1.1).

  2. Find your internal IP address in the same way. Look for the line labeled IPv4 Address. This is the address of your device within the local network (e.g., 192.168.1.100).
  3. Open a web browser and type the default gateway address in the address bar.
  4. Log in using your router’s credentials. Common defaults are:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin or password

Settings Icon Step 2: Locate the Port Forwarding Section

Navigate to the Port Forwarding or NAT Settings section, usually found under:

Edit Icon Step 3: Add a Port Forwarding Rule

Configure the rule as follows:

  • Protocol: UDP
  • External Ports: 26001-26015
  • Internal Ports: 26001-26015
  • Internal IP Address: The device’s IP address (found as IPv4 Address).

Shield Icon Step 4: Allow Ports Through Your Firewall

  1. Open your system's Firewall Settings.
  2. Look for the option to Add a New Rule.
  3. Allow the following:
    • Protocol: UDP
    • Port Range: 26001-26015
    • Application: Select the app or service you are forwarding the ports for (IGI2 Server).
  4. Save and apply the changes.

Check Icon Step 5: Test the Configuration

Use an online tool like Port Checker to ensure the ports are open and your server is live.

FAQs

Q: What if I can’t access my router?

A: Ensure your device is connected to the router and verify the default gateway address using ipconfig.

Q: My ports are still closed. Why?

A: Check your local firewall settings and ensure the target service is actually running. The ports will read as "Closed" if your IGI2 server software is not actively running during the test.
